Robert Nam, MD, MSc, FRCSC, Director of the North Toronto Prostate Centre
Dr. Nam is Professor of Surgery and the Ajmera Family Chair in Urologic Oncology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Nam completed his training at the University of Toronto and earned a Masters degree in Epidemiology studying the genetic aspects of prostate cancer. Dr. Nam conducts research in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers in high impact medical journals such as, The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Lancet Oncology, The British Medical Journal (BMJ), and the Journal of The National Cancer Institute (JNCI).
Dr. Nam’s clinical practice focuses on the surgical treatment of urologic cancers for over 20 years. He has performed over 600 radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer, (PDF). Dr. Nam is recognized internationally for his clinical and research excellence. He has given lectures world-wide including the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia for his expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
His clinical practice is in mid-town Toronto at a large teaching hospital.
Dr. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a Urologist at Mackenzie Health. He completed medical school at Queen’s University, Urology Residency at the University of Ottawa and subspeciality fellowship training in Infertility and Andrology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Fitzpatrick has a Masters of Health Administration from the University of Toronto. His practice focuses on the medical and surgical management of urologic diseases, with a special focus on Men’s Health, Infertility and Oncology. Dr. Fitzpatrick is a member of the Vaughan Urology Associates and North Toronto Prostate Centre and works at the Mackenzie Health Hospitals in Vaughan and Richmond Hill as well as Twig Fertility in Toronto.
Dr. Alaina Garbens is a Urologist at Mackenzie Health. She completed medical school and Urology Residency at The University of Toronto. She then completed her subspeciality fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Robotics and Endourology at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas with Dr. Margaret Pearle and Dr. Jeff Cadeddu. Dr. Garbens has a PhD in surgical education, performance and outcomes from the University of Toronto.
Her practice focuses on the medical and surgical management of urologic diseases, with a special focus on Minimally and Non Invasive Surgery and Endourology. Dr. Garbens is a member of the Vaughan Urology Associates and North Toronto Prostate Centre and works at the Mackenzie Health Hospitals in Vaughan and Richmond Hill. Dr. Garbens is also a founder of Eira Medical, a practice that offers minimally invasive treatments for a variety of female genitourinary conditions (www.eiramedical.ca).
Dr. Tyler Gray received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2010 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Urology in 2016. Dr. Gray also holds a community fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotics and an honour bachelor’s degree in Genetics from the University of Toronto. Dr. Gray is currently practicing at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia and the Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland. His practice covers the Simcoe-Muskoka region. His interests include focal therapy for prostate cancer and minimally invasive surgical techniques (MIST) for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Dr. Michael Kogon is the Chief of the Division of Urology at Mackenzie Health, Richmond Hill and Vaughan, Ontario. He completed his medical school training and urologic residency at the University of Toronto. He went on to subspecialty fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery in Melbourne, Australia, including advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures. He is the current president of the Canadian Endourology Group and is a member of Vaughan Urology Associates and the North Toronto Prostate Centre. Dr. Kogon specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of stone disease, BPH, and oncology.
When not in the clinic or operating room, Dr. Kogon enjoys music composition and recording, with albums available on itunes and spotify. He plays multiple instruments and performs regularly in several bands, including ‘the Void’, Canada’s Urology band, who have performed internationally. He is married, with three children.
Dr. Rohan Shahani is currently a urologist at Mackenzie Health in York Region (Richmond Hill and Vaughan). He completed his medical school training at University of Toronto and went on to complete his residency in urologic surgery at University of Toronto and a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Advanced Endourology at McMaster University. He is currently assistant professor at University of Toronto Division of Urology and Deputy Chief of Surgery at Mackenzie Health. He specializes in minimally invasive surgical therapies for benign and malignant genitourinary diseases and is an active member of the North Toronto Prostate Centre.
Dr. Robert Sowerby is a Urologist who graduated medical school and residency from the University of Toronto. He has completed subspecialty fellowship training in Endourology and renal transplantation. Dr. Sowerby has a Masters of Health Management from McMaster University and is an Assistant Professor (adjunct) in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Sowerby is a member of the Vaughan Urology Associates and the North Toronto Prostate Centre and performs surgery at the Mackenzie Health Hospitals in Vaughan, Clearpoint Surgical Center in Etobicoke, and Baycrest Health Sciences in Toronto.
His practice includes the medical and surgical management of urologic diseases with special interests in minimally invasive treatment of BPH and prostate cancer, endoscopic management of stone disease, and advanced laparoscopic surgery of benign and malignant urologic diseases. He is actively involved in medical research in prostate cancer and has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.
